But while it&#8217;s great to enjoy the outdoors, it&#8217;s important to remember that UV radiation from the sun can cause serious damage to our skin and eyes. That&#8217;s why the month of July is dedicated to UV Safety Awareness Month. Bringing attention to the importance of protecting ourselves from the harmful effects of the sun. In this blog post, we&#8217;ll explore why UV safety is so important, what you can do to stay safe in the sun, and how to have fun while doing it!<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Why is UV safety so important? The short answer is that UV radiation from the sun can have serious health effects. Both short-term and long-term. In the short-term, exposure to UV radiation can cause sunburns, rashes, and eye irritation. UV radiation can also cause long-term damage, such as premature aging of the skin, cataracts, and skin cancer. The good news is that there are plenty of ways we can reduce our exposure to UV radiation, while still enjoying all that the outdoors has to offer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">So, what can you do to stay safe in the sun? The first and most important step is to wear sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher, every time you go outside. Make sure to apply sunscreen to all exposed skin, and reapply every two hours (or more frequently if you&#8217;re swimming or sweating). It&#8217;s also a good idea to wear a broad-brimmed hat and sunglasses to protect your face and eyes from the sun. If you&#8217;re planning to be outside for an extended period of time, it&#8217;s a good idea to seek shade during the hottest part of the day (usually between 10am and 4pm).<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Having fun in the sun doesn\u2019t have to be limited by staying indoors or covered up. In fact, wearing UV protective clothing is a great and stylish way to stay protected. From hats and sunglasses, to shirts, dresses, and swimsuits, there are many options available on the market. You can also invest in a beach umbrella, pop-up tent, or portable shade canopy. So, not only are you protecting yourself, but you can add some fun items to your beach and pool outings.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">We all know that staying hydrated is important. But did you know that it can also help protect you from the sun? Drinking plenty of water can make your skin more resistant to damage from UV radiation. So, don&#8217;t forget to bring a water bottle along on your outdoor adventures! Another important factor is to avoid tanning beds. As popular as they may seem, tanning beds expose you to ultraviolet (UV) radiation. This can cause skin damage which leads to skin cancer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Now that you have some tips for staying safe in the sun, you can enjoy all that summer has to offer without worrying about the negative effects of UV radiation. By protecting yourself and your family from the sun, you&#8217;re not only reducing your risk of skin cancer and other health problems. But you&#8217;re also setting a good example for others. Let\u2019s make UV Safety Awareness Month a priority.
